Work Life Balance

Figure 1 - Importance of having Work-Life Balance (Zevohealth, 2018)

According to Scholarios & Marks (2004), Work life balance has significant values for worker attitudes to their working place and also to their own lives.  As per Guest (2002), trusts that it is possible to observe the pattern of work-life balance and its growth which impact the comfort and career output of workers at job. The matters relates to continuing and earning work-life balance have obtain considerable care during past years (Deery, 2008). Nevertheless, we may realize the meaning fundamental work-life balance concepts.  According to Deery (2008), the idea of work-life balance is a huge area as it can be observed from the sense of “work”, “life” and “balance”.

There’s another aspect of work life balance defined by Crompton (2006), some of the reason for increasing the interests of work life balance are caused by the increasing of female employment, de-industrialization and high unemployment among men. Work life balance is generally related to flexibility, working time, family, social security, demographic changes, leisure time and many more. Research that examines demographic trends such as age, migration is emphasizing a structural component of work-life balance whereas approaches referring to personal circumstances, family arrangements are focus on the individual.

The best way to define concept of “work life balance” is to break the concept into separate words. According to Guest (2001) paid “work” compresses not simply contractual hours of employment. Initially, “life” had been rather narrowly constructed to imply “family or home life”
But recent commentators have suggested a more inclusive perspective, to include free and leisure time, irrespective of non – work commitments. (Guest, 2001) The concept of “balance” itself can be highly problematic. There’s a need to recognize that balance both an objective and subjective meaning and measurement that it will vary according to circumstances and that it will also, vary across individuals.
